That is a good question, and one that I have been asked before. Several times.
The answer is that I have life coaching qualifications, which are recognised by the Complimentary Medicine Association. That means I can register with them and get a page on their website. I will be registering with them when I grow my business.
You don’t actually need any qualifications to be a life coach, but I chose to gain qualifications as I felt 1) it gave me the confidence to sell myself as a coach 2) it shows potential clients that I am qualified as a coach, and know what I’m doing and 3) I’m a big believer in being authentic and having the qualifications leaves no doubt in the fact i am being authentic.
I hope that makes sense!
I have a standard life coach qualification, which covers the whole life coaching sector. I also have a qualification in life purpose coaching, which covers the areas I’m mostly interested in (values, goals, motivations) and I also have a qualification in Female health coaching, which covers things like how hormones and diet (and our life phases,) affect women. I also have a Journaling Therapy diploma, which again is recognised with the Complementary Medical Association.
I have other qualifications, but I am just focusing on the life coach specific ones for now.
I also volunteer at a recovery college. I also have worked in the same recovery college for a period of time. And my role allows me to create and facilitate courses and workshops. I also have done wellbeing workshops independently of my volunteering/ job role, and I am looking to do more of that as I start building my business.
I hope that answers the “what qualifies me to be a life coach?” question.
Take care,
Dawn.
